New Order contribution to telecommunication industry

The history of telecommunication in Indonesia grew rapidly in the New Order era.
1967- Indosat commenced its roles with development operational scope including making transfer process and accessing Intelsat's Indian Ocean Region satellites for 20 years period.
1969- the first Indosat commercial operation started in September 1969.
1974- the State-owned telecommunication company was divided into two, the State-owned Telecommunication (Perumtel) and PT Inti
1976- launching of Palapa A-1 Satellite in July 976
1979- accomplishment of Intelsat earth station construction, Station II, as part of the operational support to Palapa satellite
1980- Perumtel was divided into two state-owned enterprises, Perumtel and Indosat. Perumtel business deals with the telecommunication service nationwide and Indosat deals with international telecommunication.
1991-Perumtel status was changed into Persero and had new name, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia or so-called Telkom
1992-PT Lintasarta was established for providing data communication network service or internet service
1993-PT Satelindo was established as the joint venture of some telecommunication companies, Telkom, Indosat, Bimagraha Telekomindo, and DeTeMObil. Ratelindo was also established as the joint venture of Telkom and Bakrie Electronics.
1995- some other telecommunication companies were established in which Telkom owned shares, those are Telkomsel, Komselindo, Mobisel, Metrosel, Pasifik Satelit.
This year the government sells some shares to public through the initial public offering (IPO). Telkom share is listed in the Jakarta and Surabaya Stocks Exchanges and also New York Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange.
