Import halted, BlackBerry Stocks

The decision of The Department of Communication and Information (Depkominfo) to decline BlackBerry certifcation license last month had caused the import of all BlackBerry products to Indonesia halted. Distributors thus only depended upon their stocks. There had been so far four Blackberry distributors in Indonesia, namely Indosat, Excelcomindo Pratama(XL), Telekomunikasi Seluler (Telkomsel) and Natrindo Telepon Seluler (NTS). Natrindo had just joined the club on 10 June 2009. New operators intending to market BlackBerry also faced difficulties. Among them was Smart telecom that was ready to release code division multiple access (CDMA) based BlackBerry this June.
