Internet users in Indonesia wall enjoy faster connections when a high-bandwidth fiber optic submarine cable linking Southeast Asia and the US comes online next month. The system, which has been dubbed the Asia-America Gateway, is scheduled to come into full effect in July, after it launch was delayed for six months, said Erniadi Dahlan, a director of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), the country’s largest telecommunications company. Along with PT Indosat, the nation’s second largest phone operator, Telkom is a member of a consortium of 17 American and Southeast Asian telecommunications companies involved in the operation of the 20,000 kilometer long, US$500 million cable system. / The Jakarta Post, pg 14
