The number of Speedy subscribers in East Java increases

PT Telkom Divisi Regional V Jawa Timur ( East Java ) continues to increase the number of its Speedy subscribers by offering the Speedy Multi Speed, starting from the beginning of June 2009. ESIA sets SMS rate at Rp 1 per character

ESIA has set its SMS rate at Rp 1 per character. This innovative breakthrough is a strategic step and is highly customer-based. Erik Meijer, Deputy President Director of PT Bakrie Telecom, said that SMS rate per character is not part of a promotional program only. The program of SMS rate of Rp 1 per character will also apply to all operators all over Indonesia. Bakrie Telecom has set a target of seven million ESIA subscribers in 2008, up 184 percent over the total of 3.8 million subscribers recorded in 2007. To support the attain-ment of this target, Bakrie Telecom will build 1,000 BTS (base trans-receiver stations) in 2008, in which 80 percent of them are shared BTS units. ESIA and Bakrie Telecom are products whose effectiveness has been proven. Even in a number of major cities like Jakarta and several cities in Banten and West Java, ESIA is superior to other CDMA operators. One of its superior qualities is the fact that ESIA works at 800 MHz, a freguency believed by many experts to be the best frequency in CDMA. Telkomsel in cooperation with the Research In Motion (RIM) released the first prepaid BlackBerry lnternet Service (BIS) in Asia.To subscribe, just send SMS using the format BB (space)REG) then send it to 333. Then the customers can directly get BlackBerry pushmail service through BlackBerry Handheld or mobile phone with BlackBerry Connect application.VP Marketing and CRM Telkomsel Hendri Mulya Sjam to the press in Jakarta. SingTel earnings climb 11%, helped by Bharti, Telkomsel

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. said its fiscal fourth-quarter net profit grew 11% but sounded a cautious note on its outlook, citing global economic uncertainties. The company said its net profit for the three months ended March 31 was S$1.09 billion (US$795.3 million), up from SS989 million a year earlier. Revenue rose 11% to SS3.76 SingTel pretax earnings from its stakes in regional mobile operators rose 18% to SS630 million, driven by strong performances from Bharti and Indonesian operator PT Telkomsel, in which SingTel holds a 35% stake. Telkomsel targeted students through Kartu AS

PT Telkomsel seriously targeted students by releasing school community program. “The subscribers of Kartu AS in East Java now has more than 1.9 million users we have community of Kartu AS users so-called Gen Asik with 115,000 members. The biggest contribution is from students with its 80 percent,” said General Manager Sales and Customer Service Telkomsel Tavadi Rismayuda to press in Surabaya Wednesday (14/5). With School Community, Kartu AS users can enjoy the Rp50 per SMS tariff and Rp8 per second talk time tariff. The program involves 450 senior high schools in area III (Java and Bali). “We are cooperating with 150 schools in East Java,” said Tayadi. (Investor daily, pg 24)

Esia expands network in Kalimantan

PT Bakrie Telecom Tbk expanded cellular network of Esia and Wifone in Kalimantan, especially in Balikpapan, Samarinda, and Tenggarong, Earlier, Bakrie Telecom has also opened network in Banjarmasin, Banjar Baru, and Martapura. Corporate Service Director of Bakrie Telecom Rakhmat Junaidi said about 80% of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in Balikpapan and Samarinda used sharing towers. BTEL rents towers from seven telecommunication companies

PT Bakrie Telecom (BTEL) managed to rent BTS towers belonged to PT Smart Telecom, PT Hutchison, and PT Sampoerna Telecom. "Besides that we also rented from four other companies," said Vice Director on Network of BTEL, Danny M Buldansyah. The four companies are PT Excelcomindo Pratama, PT Indonesia Power, PT Protelindo, and PT Balicomm. (Harian Kontan, pg 5)
